The new hi-resolution replica of the Original Image of Divine Mercy at the National Shrine in Stockbridge

In July of 2026, The Original Divine Mercy Institute was hired by the Marian Fathers in Stockbridge, MA, to install a custom, hi-resolution replica of the Original Image of Divine Mercy above the altar in the National Shrine of Divine Mercy. After many years of other images holding that place at the center of the well-known sunburst in the shrine, an exact replica of Saint Faustina’s Masterpiece of Mercy has finally been placed where it belongs.

The installation required three visits from our team, including Fr. Leo Fisher, CFR, over the course of 40 days. That’s 16,000 prayerful miles and 16 days on the road. The new replica was installed at the direction of outgoing rector, Fr. Matthew Tomeny, MIC and was completed under the Shrine’s new rector, Fr. David Gunter, MIC. Working with both rectors during this time of transition has been very insightful and we can report that the Shrine, as always, continues to be in very good and prayerful hands!

The work was all done overnight in order to avoid interrupting the Mass/adoration/vespers schedule of the National Shrine.

You may notice that the replica installed in the Natinal Shrine is significantly smaller than the Original Image of Divine Mercy. We had long discussions about that with Fr. Matthew Tomeny, MIC, who explained that it would be difficult to justify the full-size replica (approx. 40” x 83”) in that niche as the church has two namesakes, one more prominent than the other. The ornate church was originally built in 1950 largely without blueprints by local craftsman, Antonion Guerrieri. Since it was built for the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception, the altar piece has always featured a white Carrara marble statue of Mary of the Immaculate Conception.

In 1960, the shrine was solenmly dedicated by Bishop Weldon of Springfield as the Shrine of Divine Mercy. In 1996, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops officially designated it as the National Shrine of Divine Mercy.

We cannot count the number of churches that have called to request that we install a hi-resolution replicas of the Original Image of Divine Mercy. Many were done to replace other images, other versions by other artists, or lower quality prints (which we like to call canvas-posters). It is always an honor to place one of these perfect replicas in a church where it will be venerated by the faithful. In some churches, the painting that Jesus asked us to venerate will be seen/venerated by more people than it will be in other churches, but in all cases, Jesus is doing the same work through this miraculous image as he promised. “Paint an image according to the pattern you see, with the signature: ‘Jesus, I trust in You.’ I desire that this image be venerated, first in your chapel, and then throughout the world. I promise that the soul that will venerate this image will not perish.”
